Lorient centre-back Laurent Koscielny has revealed that he has asked the board of the Breton club to do all that they can to allow him to move to Arsenal.
The defender has been the subject of speculation linking him to the London club over the past month but as yet no deal has been reached between the two outfits, despite the Gunners having two sizeable bids rejected.
“It's a joy to be courted by Arsenal,” the 24-year-old explained to Aujourd'hui.
“I want to join this prestigious club which is playing in the Champions League. I told the board and they understood me.
“I've always liked English football, with the fans closer to the pitch, and the quality of game played by Arsenal won me over.”
Koscielny’s ascent has been quick, rising from Guingamp to Tours and finally to Lorient in the space of three years.
“Everything has been fast for me,” he admitted.
“It takes a good bit of luck to not miss the right car.”
Reports in the French press suggest that a fee of £11 million will need to be found by Arsenal if they wish to sign the defender, the same price tag that Lorient have slammed on star striker Kevin Gameiro, who is being examined by several top European sides.
