A magnificent masterpiece maker- Mani Ratnam has once again came up with the idea that no one else has thought of yet. After watching spectacular Rajneeti by Prakash Jha, a modern day Mahabharat, Mani is out with Ravan which can be defined as modern day Ramayan or better to say Raavanayan.
Mani has roped his characters in the movie on the same lines of Ramayan.in his movie he has an honest cop, who punishes the law breaker, an idol like Ram known as Dev in the film (Vikram). Dev has an adorable wife Raagini as chaste as Sita (Aishwarya). Honest cop’s friend in the forest reminds Hanuman (Givinda), his confidante (Nikhil Dwivedi) as Lakshman, vampish sister of villain who instigates the fight and villain is no other than Raavanan (Abhishek Bachchan) who kidnaps the cop’s wife in the revenge.
For viewer’s delight Mani has incorporated amusing visuals which is very much expected by audiences if they are going to watch a movie of such a brilliant film-maker but its narration seems to be wavering at times. Audiences expect the movie to start with all its zeal to keep up the excitement but it’s first half was not so excited and seemed to be boring at times and in the end climax also didn’t revived the thrill as anticipated.
Ravana comes with the pressure of immense expectations because of the names clinging to it. Movie buffs expects a lot from Mani-Abhishek-Aishwarya trio but this time it’s not easy to say whether they have lived up to the expectations or not.
At the climax, viewers were expecting a lot but were left with unfulfilled desires. Beera’s sister’s role was not given the ample space to develop completely. Moreover, Raagini developing soft corner for Beera is not acceptable at all. This reflects an unsound screenplay without a doubt.
On the positive side, kidnapping of Nikhil was impressive; factors developed for prompting Beera to create chaos in Dev’s life were apt. Dev and Beera’s fight sequence on the bridge was extraordinary. Visuals in every Mani ratna’s film are exceptional and Raavan maintain that norm. Each frame deserves applaud and admiration.
Music by A.R. Rahman is also loved by all and to complement Raavan has awesome visuals. Lively choreography on the music created an altogether different impact.
Screenplay didn’t did justice with Abhishek’s efforts. In some scenes his dialogues were not rational. While Aishwarya was as pretty as realistic, Vikram and Govinda didn’t get the chance to make any difference.
Concluding the whole discussion, Raavan turned out to be huge disappointment for viewers but for business it has already attracted a whole lot of crowd because of the names attached to it.
