The International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from June 3rd to 5th, seems to be hogging all the headlines of late.
The latest news from the IIFA stables is that Shah Rukh Khan, who, according to our sources, was supposed to captain the IIFA team (comprising of the who’s who from the film industry) at the cricket match against Sri Lankan team, has sidestepped from the responsibility.
Rumour has it that SRK has been replaced by Suniel Shetty and Hrithik Roshan as captains.
The reason being cited is that Shah Rukh is too busy shooting for his sci-fi thriller ‘Ra 1’. When asked, Sabbas Joseph, director Wizcraft, confirmed the news, saying, “Yes, Shah Rukh was to captain the cricket team but owing to his busy shooting schedule of ‘Ra 1’, he requested us to keep him away from this responsibility.”
Rumour also has it that SRK is expected to attend the ceremony on the second day (i.e. June 4). “He (SRK) has promised to attend the IIFA on one of these days. Probably he will join us late in the evening on the second day of IIFA celebrations,” said Sabbas.
But wonder if it genuinely is because of his busy schedule owing to ‘Ra 1’ or is it the presence of a certain Salman Khan and his active participation in this year’s IIFA which is keeping the King Khan away?
Sabbas emphatically ruled out any such issues though. He said, “There are no problems of that sort. You should understand the pressure that our stars undergo owing to their profession. Getting all of them out of their schedule has to be in accordance to their dates. I have always welcomed the Indian film fraternity to join IIFA and have got a good response. Moreover, these stars are always ready to join hands for a good cause.”
Well, let’s give King Khan the benefit of doubt
