Seeking to further strengthen the bond between the two nations, India and Syria on Friday agreed to enhance cooperation in sectors such as information technology, oil and natural gas, pharmaceuticals, automobiles and agriculture to boost bilateral trade — currently at about $420 million.
“India and Syria have agreed to make concerted efforts to raise the bilateral trade to a level commensurate with the potential of the two countries,” according to an official statement issued here. Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma, who is now on a visit to Damascus, held bilateral talks with his counterpart, and Syrian Minister for Economy and Trade, Lamia Marai Aasi.Mr. Sharma also called on the Prime Minister of Syria, Mohamad Naji Otri, and the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Abdullah Dardari
